HANOI – On the morning of April 23, 2026, the Viet Nam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade held a doctoral dissertation defense session for PhD candidate Nguyen Hung Son at its headquarters at 17 Yet Kieu Street, Hanoi.
PhD candidate Nguyen Hung Son defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “Solutions for Promoting the Sustainable Export of Vietnamese Footwear in the Context of EVFTA Implementation”, in Commercial Business, code 9.34.01.21. The dissertation was completed under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat and Dr. Nguyen Van Hoi.
The Doctoral Dissertation Evaluation Council was established under Decision No. 354/QD-CLCS dated April 3, 2026, issued by the Director of the Viet Nam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade. The Council comprised Prof. Dr. Nguyen Bach Khoa from Vietnam National University, Hanoi, as Chair of the Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Thanh from the Viet Nam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade, as First Reviewer; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thai Phong from Foreign Trade University, as Second Reviewer; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Lich from the Viet Nam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade, as Member; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Bich Loan from the University of Commerce, as Member; Dr. Do Quang from the Viet Nam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade, as Member; and Dr. Dang Cong Hien from the Viet Nam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade, as Secretary of the Council.
Under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Bach Khoa, PhD candidate Nguyen Hung Son presented the key contents and findings of his dissertation, which consists of four chapters. Chapter 1 provides an overview of studies related to the dissertation topic. Chapter 2 discusses theoretical issues concerning the sustainable export of footwear. Chapter 3 analyzes the current status of Vietnamese footwear exports to the European Union market during the 2016–2025 period. Chapter 4 proposes perspectives, orientations and solutions to promote the sustainable export of Vietnamese footwear in the context of EVFTA implementation.
Members of the Council noted that the dissertation demonstrated scientific rigor, practical relevance and consistency with the candidate’s field of specialization. They also stated that the research methodology was appropriate, the dissertation showed no duplication with previously published research, and the work met the requirements for a doctoral dissertation in terms of both content and format.
The Council also provided comments, recommendations and revision suggestions to help PhD candidate Nguyen Hung Son further improve and finalize his dissertation in accordance with academic quality requirements.
Following deliberation, the Council voted unanimously, with all seven members in favor, to approve the dissertation for defense before the Institute-level Doctoral Dissertation Evaluation Council, subject to revisions and improvements based on the conclusions of the grassroots-level evaluation council.
The defense session reflected the Institute’s commitment to maintaining academic standards in doctoral training and contributing to the development of high-quality research in industry and trade, particularly in the context of deeper economic integration and the implementation of new-generation free trade agreements.
